Prescription glasses

Read your glasses prescription
When you order glasses from Berg Eyewear, you’ll need to either enter your current prescription (no older than 2 years) or upload a photo of your prescription or email it to us at checkout. Don’t worry — adding your prescription is super easy.

Your prescription in a nutshell
On your prescription, you’ll see numbers under OS (left eye) and OD (right eye). In general: the higher the number, the more correction your eyes need. A “plus” (+) sign means you are farsighted, and a “minus” (–) sign means you are nearsighted. These numbers represent the diopter strength needed for your lenses.

This is our prescription table
You’ll need to enter your prescription manually when buying prescription glasses — unless you’ve already saved it in your Berg Eyewear account.

  • The SPH value indicates the lens strength prescribed to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness.
  • The CYL and AXIS values (cylinder & axis) indicate astigmatism. CYL shows the lens strength needed to correct it, and AXIS indicates the curvature of your cornea.
  • The PD value (Pupillary Distance) measures the distance between your pupils and ensures the lenses are centered correctly.

Now you know the different values in your prescription. Read on to learn more about your eyes.

Nearsightedness
Nearsightedness, also known as myopia, makes it difficult to see things clearly at a distance. This happens when your eye grows too long from front to back, causing the focus to fall in front of the retina instead of on it, resulting in blurry vision.

Farsightedness
Farsightedness, also known as hyperopia, is a common refractive error that makes it difficult to see things clearly up close. Sometimes people don’t even notice it, especially when they’re young. People with more pronounced farsightedness may have trouble seeing clearly both near and far.

Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a common condition that causes blurred vision. It occurs when the cornea (the transparent front layer of the eye) or the lens has an irregular shape.

Now that you know how your glasses prescription works, all that’s left is to find the perfect frame.
